Keep your carpet stain-free by trying these carpet cleaning tips at home.
Blot stains don’t rub them!
Although every carpet stain is different, overall the most effective way of getting rid of a stain is to blot the area with either a clean cloth (try an old towel or cotton t-shirt – white is the best!), paper towel. Angelo’s Cleaning offers a free bottle of professional spot remover with any carpet cleaning service! Remember to use only a little bit of pressure on the stained area. Rubbing a stain will only grind the spot into the carpet fibers. If you blot from the outside of the stain towards the center you will avoid spreading the stain further.
Get old gum out of carpet
Whether it is old chewing gum or a new fresh sticky piece, gum in a carpet can be a nightmare! To remove a sticky chewing gum stuck in carpet, the best option is to freeze it. Take a few ice cubes and put them on top of the goo and in a few minutes, you should be able to remove the gum It may not be as easy but taking a metal spoon or butter knife can help to lift out the frozen gum. Try re-freezing the area. If you can not get the remaining gum out, try to carefully cut any remaining fibers with a pair of scissors but only do this sparingly so it does not become apparent in the carpet.
The secret to getting blood stains out of a carpet
A small amount of blood can be removed from a carpet whether it be from a cut on your kids’ hand or a brush burned knee from carpet dives on a rainy day! Get rid of blood satins with hydrogen peroxide. You will need a soft white rag or some paper towels, a bit of mild dishwashing detergent and warm water. If the blood is dry, try to scrape off ever so gently with a butter knife and vacuum the remnants. Next, mix up the water and detergent in a bowl and douse the area to loosen up dried blood. Now we are ready for the hydrogen peroxide – apply it directly on the stain to eliminate whatever is remaining. Don’t be surprised if when the hydrogen peroxide comes in contact with blood, it foams up! Wait a minute and then gently blot the area with a clean towel until it is dry.
Make beer and wine stains in a carpet vanish
We’ve all been there! A glass of beer or even worse, wine gets knocked off the living room table and onto the carpet. After the panic has subsided, go find a roll of paper towels or old white towel. Next, mix one tablespoon of a gentle dish cleaning liquid and one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Douse the area and start to gently blot the stain. Make sure to keep the towel / paper towels clean and keep blotting until the stains are all eliminated.
How to remove coffee stains from carpet
If you have ever spilled a cup of coffee on the carpet it may look like it will never come out! Coffee stains! Even worse, because coffee has natural oils, it can be a stain that comes back over time. The best way to deal with this nightmare is to get a thirsty towel and blot the majority of the liquid. Next, mix one tablespoon of a gentle dish cleaning liquid and one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water and sprinkle (or better use a spray bottle) or spray it on the remaining stain. Let this sit for a moment and start to blot the stain again with paper towels or a clean, absorbent white rag. Once the stain is gone you can sprinkle some baking soda on the area and let it sit for a couple of minutes before and using the vacuum cleaner.
