Angelo Pagnotti, owner of Angelo’s Cleaning, shares a quick tip about pet odor in carpets and what you can do to help eliminate it.

Pet odor can linger because the source often sits deeper than the visible surface of the carpet. Urine, accidents, and other organic residues can move into the carpet backing and padding. Once bacteria begin breaking down the residue, the smell may return even after the carpet looks clean.

If the accident is fresh, blot the area right away with clean white towels and avoid rubbing. Rubbing can spread the spot and push the residue deeper. Use only enough moisture to rinse the surface carefully, then dry the area thoroughly. Avoid heavy perfumes or harsh cleaners that only cover the odor temporarily or leave residue behind.
